MUSEACT was founded in 2001 with the aim of sharing the concerns, defending and supporting associations active in the field of jazz and improvised music. These associations, all constituted as non-profit organisations, work in a variety of fields: organising concerts and festivals, training and promotion, record production, etc.
MUSEACT , renamed FAZZ , is a platform open to any other association that adheres to the general principles defined and specified in the "Charter". The current partners are : Collectif Jazz04, Gaume Jazz Festival, Jazz Station, Les Lundis d'Hortense, Maison du Jazz à Liège, Sowarex- Igloo Records, Sounds Live, Théâtre Marni, Relais Jazz, Hypnote Records, Home Records, Collectif du Lion, Jazz Mania, Aubergine management, Step By Records, Wooha, Mogno, Open Music, Le Rideau Rouge, Le Baixu.
Since 2011, MUSEACT has been collectively managing the Belgian Jazz Meeting with Dutch-speaking partners, an event that takes place every two years to showcase jazz in Belgium to a public of Belgian and international professionals. In 2020, MUSEACT was recognised as a professional federation by the Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles, and as such sits on the Music Consultation Chamber, which enables it to participate in the new cultural policy that is being put in place and to defend the points of view of its members. Since 2023, it has also been recognised as a federation at federal level. Particularly in the wake of the Covid-19 crisis, Museact's members have realised that they need to work in a more co-ordinated way, in order to leverage their actions and revitalise the federation, which is intended to be a forum for the exchange of information and co-operation between its members.
The charter brings together organisations :
• whose objective is to defend the creation, promotion, dissemination and training of artists from our community ;
• whose orientation is in jazz and improvised music and who promote the musical heritage of these sectors;
• whose legitimacy is recognised through their past and present actions;
• which operates on a not-for-profit basis so as to ensure that any profits are reinvested in accordance with its objectives; and which necessarily benefits a varied representation of artists.
The charter aims :
• to promote jazz and improvised music, in the broadest sense of the term and in all fields ;
• to represent all its members more effectively in dealings with public authorities, the media and international contacts; and to take part in all negotiations relating to matters that concern them;
• to support the necessary upgrading of subsidies and, at the very least, the stabilisation of subsidies from public authorities;
• to share the common skills of the associations and thus improve the effectiveness of their action in the various fields of activity;
• to improve the coherence of activities by promoting cooperation between its members and with other federations in the music sector;
• to contribute to the development of artists by giving concerted thought to societal issues such as the fiscal, social and administrative status of artists, authors' and performers' rights, the status of the artist, equitable remuneration, ecology, parity and well-being in the workplace.
