Brax' Tree is a trio born out of a project derived from Kobe Van Cauwenberghe's Ghost Trance Music septet, which has been interpreting and performing Anthony Braxton's music since 2020, sometimes even in the maestro's presence, balancing the music between improvisation and notation. Delannoye, Verbruggen and Sakham were eager to deepen Braxton's sound by adding their jazz experience. The trio's new repertoire included, in addition to Braxton's compositions, original works created for the trio, as well as interpretations of the repertoire of Mark Helias' Open Loose Trio and Ornette Coleman. After giving a few concerts during the winter of 2024 in Belgium and Austria, the quartet is open to further musical adventures. Anna Webber has been a close friend and fellow saxophonist of Steven's since they met at the Manhattan School of Music in 2009. Anna has made a name for herself on the creative music scene in New York and is an inevitable addition to the trio. Delannoye's desire to once again have a group of two tenors has come to fruition. He will create new works for the ensemble and explore the cross-section and differences in the personal vocabulary of the two horn players.
