Immersed in music at an early age, Stéphane Mercier studied various instruments before concentrating on saxophone, flute, composition and arranging. He studied at the Berklee College of Boston in the 90s, touring with Mark Turner, Seamus Blake and others, before moving to New York where he recorded and played with Aaron Goldberg, Randy Brecker, Jeff Ballard and Avishai Cohen, to name but a few. He then moved to Paris and Brussels, where he now lives. He now leads his own groups and the Jazzstation Bigband (with guests such as Grégoire Maret and Kenny Werner).

He is signed to a number of labels, including Freshsound/New talent, Mogno Music, Igloo record, Quetzal and Hypnote.
