Italian pianist Franco Piccinno is on a never-ending road: from Naples to Paris, London... From Europe to the USA, from Japan to Brazil, and most recently to Barcelona. His fluid, brilliant technique, placed at the service of the music and the dialogue between musicians, makes him an outstanding improviser.
His family was steeped in music, and Stéphane Mercier studied various instruments from an early age, before concentrating on saxophone, flute, composition and arranging. He studied at the Berklee College of Boston in the 90s, then toured with Mark Turner, Seamus Blake and others before moving to New York, where he recorded and played with Aaron Goldberg, Randy Brecker, Jeff Ballard and Avishai Cohen, to name but a few. He then moved to Paris and Brussels, where he currently resides. He now leads his own groups and the Jazzstation Bigband (with guests such as Grégoire Maret and Kenny Werner).
