Jazz&mo' #31 - BODY
This Jazz&mo’ is an ode to the body, because after all, it is the fingers that glide over the keys and strings, the feet that hit the bass drum, the lungs that rush the air through the sax and the hips that move along naturally.
On the cover: Berlinde Deman tells us all about mouth position, lung capacity and ergonomics when playing the serpent. Sporty saxophonists Håkon Erlandsen, Lennert Baerts and Marjan Van Rompay use their bodies not only to make music but also to climb mountains, play football and run marathons. During Matinée, we can stretch out on a mattress and listen to live music. Former Jazz&mo' coordinator Femke Coopmans puts aside her yoga mat and gives an insight into her record collection. And professors Luc Nijs, Marc Leman and Mark Reybrouck explain what music does to our bodies.
And further: Maarten Weyler saves his students from musician's injuries. Drummer Jakob Warmenbol has been spared one for the time being. Patrick Auwelaert not only talks about a new cover artist in this Jazz&mo', but also about the physical album I Sing the Body Electric. Lieven Keymolen zooms in on jazz poet Ted Kooser. Author Wouter Adriaensen wrote a book about the legendary Hnita jazz club. Leon Lhoëst gives an insight into the life of Lennie Tristano. The reviewers highlight the top five albums. And Pieter Franssen gathered some sixty top musicians for his latest album Playground.
