Voorronde B-Jazz Contest - CC Het SPOOR

In the B-Jazz International Contest, Muziekmozaïek, Leuven Jazz, De Jazzontspooring and Rataplan are looking for young jazz talent ready to break through on international stages. B-Jazz wants to discover, support and encourage these talents. This international competition gives them the chance to perform in front of a professional jury and an enthusiastic audience.

At CC Het SPOOR, the third and final preliminary round will go ahead with three bands. Afterwards, we will find out who will advance to the B-Jazz final in autumn 2024. Two Belgian groups will then compete against four international jazz bands for the Albert Michiels Grand Prix. The winner will be able to perform on international stages in Spain, Italy, Romania, the Netherlands and - of course - Belgium.

Werend Alleen

Werend Van Den Bossche (Dishwasher_, The Green Mean Machine, Eleanor ...) ventures into his solo project "Werend Alleen." With a range of influences, from baroque to jazz, he delves into mystical realms. In this exploration, Werend unravels the secrets of saxophone acoustics while integrating electronic elements. With a passion for the ethereal, he conjures through experimentation and improvisation a fusion that seeks to transcend the ordinary.

Juxtaposition

Louis Eeckhout (piano), Robbe Broeckx (drums), Toon Rumen (bass) and Seppe De Bleser (alto saxophone) are four musicians within the new generation of Belgian jazz musicians. Together, they form the band "Juxtaposition". As the band's name suggests, these musicians are interested in the thin line between different styles and ways of making music. This results sometimes in elaborate arrangements and other times in totally free improvisation. Their own compositions form the basis, often referring to creative composers or musicians from the past.

Tim Vermeulen Quartet

Modern jazz quartet led by drummer/composer Tim Vermeulen. This quartet started in 2022 and consists of some of Belgium's most adventurous young improvisers: Felix Declerck (Electric bass), Seppe De Bleser (Alto saxophone), Thibault Deryckere (Piano) and Tim Vermeulen (Drums). The quartet creates a harmonious and rhythmic and dynamic interplay with obscure colours combined with lyrical themes merging into one full band sound. The setting with electric bass and alto sax make it a less common sound that creates a unique vibe/feel and works perfectly! Tim started his music studies at Pxl-Music (Hasselt) but was still not convinced after graduation that he was an accomplished musician.... Mainly because Tim was sold on jazz music at that point so there was only one thing to do.... Ghent conservatory opened his arms and let him open all his senses to absorb as much material as possible.
