Natashia Kelly

Natashia Kelly

“ With her unique voice, Natashia Kelly sings in a totally personal and inhabited register, revealing various and intertwined sound palettes, which would probably be wrong to reduce to the four letters of the word jazz.” (music journalist Yann Viseur, live concert, support GoGo Penguin, L'Aéronef, France).

Natashia Kelly, born in Belgium but with Irish roots, is a singer , composer, lyrics writer and band leader.

The Sean-Nos singing (Irish a -Cappella singing) inspires the way she approaches a song.

Natashia Kelly studied in the conservatory of Brussels with David Linx and went on erasmus exchange to CNSMDP in Paris.

Her jazz-background gives her freedom to be adventurous, to improvise over pieces, to explore the nuances in her voice and to blend with each instrument.

The way she composes and writes the lyrics is with great care for “the content of the story”. Harmony and lyrics will evoke a visual world of our contemporary times.

With her latest album 'Dear Darkening Ground' , she puts in the songs her concern about the relation between humans and nature. It seems that it has come to a point that we need to take care of the earth instead of using it for profit.

Poets like R.M Rilke and Yeats were already writing about it in the beginning of the 20th century. So they were an inspiration to start this project.

The CD “Dear Darkening Ground” will be released in January 2023 by De W.E.R.F. Records.

The musicians are : Dré Pallemaerts (drums), Yannick Peeters (db bass) , Nicola Andrioli (piano) and Ruben Machtelinckx (guitars and banjo)

The project was chosen for Jazz Impuls.

A tour in January and February 2023 is organised bij JazzLab.

And a tour in 2024 organized by Les Lundis d'Hortense in duo with Nicola Andrioli.
