Soirée vidéo Roland Kirk - présentation Jean-Pol Schroeder

The one-man band of jazz! But what a musician! As a saxophonist, he developed an entirely new style of flute for jazz, and he also exploited a series of diverse and heterogeneous instruments - the stritch and the manzello, which he is almost the only one to use. A lyricist who specialised in circular breathing, Roland Kirk was discovered while panhandling and launched his career in the mid-1950s. Europe discovered him in the following decade, when he could play three instruments at the same time. Far from being the musical clown some have tried to reduce him to, Rahsaan Roland Kirk continued his musical struggle right up to the end of the seventies. A must-see!
