SaxConnection is a creation based around New York-born baritone saxophonist Gary Smulyan (born in Illinois, raised in Nebraska, studied music in Texas, lives in NY). It was during a tour that the post-bop group “The Sax Connection” was born. Today, Smulyan has recruited his fellow member of New York's prestigious The Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, Ralph Lalama, as well as John Snauwaert.
Smulyan is full of praise for John: “It's a pleasure to play with John, because his creativity and ability to communicate through his instruments are mature and deeply rooted in the jazz tradition. He's at home in all styles...”.
The rhythm section features two of Toots' favorite musicians: bassist Bart de Nolf and drummer Bruno Castellucci.
