River Jazz Festival : Saouta

River Jazz Festival : Saouta

An oud, tablas, a soprano saxophone, a double bass, four voices intersect and unite. Saouta's universe, the fruit of an imagination nourished by Celtic, Arabic, Indian and jazz music, is an ode to travel, to the poetry of the moment which is constantly reconstructed.

Saouta was born from the meeting of Bernard Flament (tab player) in love with Indian and African cycles, and Damien Brassart (saxophonist) keen on Celtic and oriental music. It was through contact with Akram Ben Romane, a Tunisian oud virtuoso, that their journey to the East suddenly took shape. The borderless strings of this oud player will finally be joined by those of the double bass of Jim Monneau, a talented musician, full of influences.

A jazz spirit stretched towards the West which from Brussels, at the crossroads of Europe, goes to meet the great East, the Orient, to weave links, build bridges, finally build cultures which disarm, celebrate , bring together beyond all borders.
