Jazz Portrait • David Murray (part 2)

Jazz Portrait • David Murray (part 2)

Appearing on the New York scene in the mid-1970s, David Murray became a figure of the Loft Generation. At the same time, he founded the World Saxophone Quartet which will be active until 2016. Today, after more than a hundred albums recorded under his name, his work appears prolific and protean. Stylistically, this tenor sax (which also excels on bass clarinet) marries the adventurous spirit of (post) free and a mainstream tradition that dates back to the 1930s. With a powerful, lyrical and expressive sound to the climax. Exploring all facets of black music, Murray practices the art of renewal like no other contemporary jazzman.
