Serge Plume

Serge Plume is a robust lead trumpet player, with a career inside and outside Belgium.

He studied at the Music Conservatory in Ghent (B) and Hilversum (The Netherlands).

His experience in many big bands, horn sections, as well in live situations as in the recording studios, is considerable.

In the jazz field, he started his career playing with the BRT JAzzorkest and the BRT Big band, and played a.o. with the Skymasters (NL), the SWR big band (Germany), Act Big Band (a.o. on the cd "Extremes"), etc...

Serge Plume, with Frank Vaganée and Marc Godfroid, was among the founders of the Brussels Jazz Orchestra, a band which gained international fame in recent years. Serge played numerous concerts and appears on several albums of the band.

In France, he was a member of the ONJ (Orchestre National de Jazz) when it was led by Laurent Cugny (he appears on the CD "Merci, merci, merci", on Verve 534 945-2).

He is also active in Germany (Hazy Osterwald, the Kings of Swing Orchestra, etc...), the Netherlands, etc...

He is a member of the "Jay horns", a horn section which is well-known in the recording studios and on stage. They played with pop and jazz artists such as : Jamie Cullum, the Four Tops, the Temptations, Lionel Ritchie, Al Jarreau, Kid Creole and the Coconuts, Michel Legrand, Madeline Bell, etc...

Other collaborations : Quincy Jones, Al Jarreau, Toots Thielemans, the RTL-Big Band, the WDR Big Band, the Hazy Osterwald band, Viktor Laszlo, Caterina Valente, Marc Matthys (cd) etc...

He appeared in numerous jazz festivals : Montreux, North-Sea, New Orleans-Jazzfestival, Jazz à Liège, etc...

He teaches at the Lemmens Instituut in Leuven (B).
