Francesca Murro

Born in 1994, Francesca Murro was Assistant Professor to award-winning singer David Linx at the Koninklijk Conservatorium in Bruxelles from 2019 to 2021, thanks to an Erasmus Traineeship grant. She began her musical studies at the Conservatorio G. Martucci in Salerno, first in modern singing and later in jazz, under the guidance of Carlo Lomanto. She graduated with highest honors (110 cum laude) in Jazz Voice, presenting a thesis on scat improvisation, and obtained her specialization in Jazz Singing in 2020, also with full marks.

Alongside her studies, she performed extensively with her quartet (Bruno Salicone, Francesco Galatro, Stefano De Rosa), appearing at festivals such as Jazz in Luce, Live Jazz Salerno, D’Ascoli Jazz, and Moro Jazz Club. She has attended seminars with Maria Pia De Vito, Susanna Stivali, Shawn Monteiro, and many others, and has deepened her practice in Overtone Singing and Sound Painting.

In 2016, she was chosen by Norma Winstone to perform with her at the Teatrino di Corte in Napoli. In 2018, she studied in New York with Roberta Gambarini and participated in masterclasses with Marion Cowings, Christian Sands, Christian McBride, and the legendary pianist Barry Harris. She has also trained in Estill Voice and shares vocal techniques on her TikTok profile @francescamurrovocalcoach.

A finalist in the Massimo Urbani Prize (2020) and the George Grigoriu International Competition, where she won both the Audience Prize and Best Performance Award, Francesca has wide experience as a jazz and pop singing teacher as well as a music educator for children. She holds the CLIL certificate for teaching music in English.

She has explored musical theatre with Sabrina De Siena and studied dubbing at the Silvia Pepitoni Academy in Rome, lending her voice to the current Grana Padano commercial aired on RAI. She has collaborated with festivals such as Atina Jazz Festival, curated the program Harlem Rhythms on Radio Booonzo, and opened concerts for Italian celebrities including Anna Tatangelo.

Now based in Bruxelles, she leads her quartet (with Armando Luongo, Vincent Bruyninckx, Jasen Weaver), collaborates on recording projects (New Lands, AfterLife), and since 2024 has directed the Coro Belcanto, a choir dedicated to Italian song, for which she arranges and conducts.

David Linx writes:

My name is David Linx, jazz singer, composer, and professor at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels. I can say it is a true joy to work with Francesca Murro, even through challenging moments. Her voice has pure beauty, and her musicality is exceptional. It is a pleasure to collaborate with her, and she truly deserves a place in the world of music and teaching.
