Frédéric Lepaffe
Julien Gillain is a pianist and violinist from Belgium. He got his Master's degrees in both instruments in 2017 at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels with high distinction and the PalyRight+ award. He had as mentors Eric Legnini, Vincent Bruyninckx, Françoise Derissen and others. In 2018, he continued his learning journey taking private lessons with pianists Aaron Parks and Aaron Goldberg in New York City.
He regularly performs in Belgium and across Europe in various projects on both piano and violin. Some of the groups he is active in include Reverent Juke, with which he extensively tours the European swing scene, the Pauline Leblond Double Quartet, the Quatuor Prisma, and Alma e Vento. He also frequently plays in string quartets in several projects on stage and in studio, blending classical and jazz music for some. He also writes and arranges for strings on different occasions at the request of certain artists with whom he collaborates.
Beyond his musical practice, Julien Gillain completed his didactic master's degree at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels in 2018 and taught at the academies of Amay and Jette for 5 years.
