Bart Defoort - Jazz in de Academiezaal

Seasoned jazz musician Bart Defoort brings together a one-off quartet especially for this concert

We open our jazz concert series with composer and saxophonist Bart Defoort. An open-minded and curious musician, he has performed with a wide variety of jazz projects on dozens of stages in Belgium and abroad since 1990. He plays the saxophone with a rounded, warm tone that can sound energetic, lyrical and reflective in equal measure. He favours a strongly melodic approach, moving through rich harmonic and rhythmic compositions while building a deep connection and musical dialogue with his fellow musicians.

Especially for this concert, Bart Defoort brings together a one-off quartet spanning three generations of experienced Belgian jazz musicians. Their set will combine original compositions with a selection of gems from the rich jazz repertoire.

Expect an evening full of groove, swing, captivating musical conversations and improvisation.

Before and after the concert, and during the interval, the DJs from Jazz Heks Sound System will spin the finest records from their collection at culture café de Fwajee.
