Born in a musical family.(His father a classical musician, his brother Kris Defoort, Jazz composer and pianist). Bart Defoort studied at the Brussels Conservatories with Steve Houben and attended masterclasses with John Ruocco, Joe Lovano, Dave Holland. Between 1982 -86 he played in some music-theatre pieces and avant-garde projects like Blindman Sax Quartet, Fred Van Hove WIM orchestra, while studying at Brussels Conservatory and attending lots of jam sessions. |

As a sideman, Bart has worked and/or still works with Richard Rousselet , Chris Joris, Ernst Vranckx, Olivier Collette, Bart Quartier, Mimi Verderame, Marnix Busstra, Carlo Morena, etc…
He has been invited in 1996 to play some concerts in India (Bombay) with Amit Heri, Ramamani and the Karnataka College of Percussion. Contemporary classical music to free improvisation
