DAIMON marks the first duo album by Belgian musicians Jozef Dumoulin and Eric Thielemans, a meeting that brings together more than twenty‑five years of shared history in the Belgian jazz and improvisation scenes. Though both artists have crossed paths in numerous ensembles – from Thielemans’ a Snare is a Bell and EARR Ensemble to Dumoulin’s lidlboj project and his trio with Trevor Dunn – this is their first dedicated studio statement as a duo.

The album grew out of an informal two‑day session in a friend’s Antwerp studio. There was no plan to make a record; instead, the two sought to reconnect musically, to see where their practices had led them, and to explore the questions that continue to drive their work. Dumoulin, now long based in Paris and deeply embedded in the French contemporary Jazz scene, and Thielemans, rooted in Antwerp with a research‑oriented improvisational practice, brought distinct yet complementary perspectives into the room. Their conversations about music, its ethics, its modes of circulation, its tensions with commercial frameworks, were as central to the process as the playing itself.

What emerged from these sessions is a body of music that embraces hypnotic repetition, slow transformation, and subtle rhythmic displacement. Regardless of style or sonic palette, each sound functions as a vehicle for entering a space where time stretches, textures shift, and meaning unfolds gradually. Through collective listening, the duo selected a series of tracks that formed a coherent yet open‑ended unit: the core of what became DAIMON.

The title evokes the light within shadow, the in‑between spaces where things resist clear stylistic definition. DAIMON is less a theme than an orientation: an invitation to hear the music’s embrace of ambiguity, nuance, and the luminous edges of the unknown. DAIMON stands as an intimate document of two artists deeply engaged with listening, inquiry, and the ethics of making music today — a duo encounter distilled into a resonant, immersive recording.

DAIMON will be released in October of 2026 by the French label YOLK Records.
