Gaume Jazz Festival : Children of Simone

Gaume Jazz Festival : Children of Simone

As part of the project "Salut les Voisins – Jazz bij de Buren – Jazz at the Neighbors"

Children of Simone (formerly Burns sings NINA) – Jazz Leuven's Favorite

Eight vocal talents team up with a jazz trio for a unique and refreshing performance featuring Nina Simone's best songs.

The Project

Singer, pianist, composer, and civil rights activist, Nina Simone (1933-2003) was one of the most influential artists of the 20th century.

Her sound fused soul, blues, and jazz, while also allowing her love of classical music to shine through.

Her music was personal, sincere, and intense. Moreover, Nina Simone was also a Black voice to be reckoned with: she passionately defended the rights of the oppressed.

Her musical legacy, however, continues to inspire. The singer has created a tribute to Nina Simone especially for Gaume Jazz, with the help of fresh new voices from Leuven and Brussels. Expect a combination of the greatest hits and hidden gems from Nina Simone's vast oeuvre, giving the songs the originality and soul they deserve. To achieve this, the vocals are supported by a driving rhythm section.
