Dine DONEFF (alias Kosta Théodorou) – ROUSILVO
Rousilvo is the ancient Slavic name of the village of Xanthogeia, in northwestern Greece. The name of the village, and its Slavic-Macedonian language community, were victims of the Greek state’s policy of «Hellenizing» the land and its people. At the end of the Greek civil war (1946-49), most of the women in the village were left alone, their husbands killed or exiled. Since 1986, the village has been uninhabited due to a long-lasting social marginalization...
Compositions, alternating with recordings of the village’s elderly survivors (sometimes singing, sometimes telling their stories) collecting and transforming a treasure, an elegy, of a poetry in the process of disappearing.
