Angelo Moustapha’s IBIYEWA

Born in the hidden places of Brussels, this group is the initiative of Angelo Moustapha. A Beninese drummer recently arrived in the Belgian capital, Angelo is already a darling of the creative scene and the protégé of Philip Catherine and Lionel Loueke. Imagine the intersection of the rhythms of a master drummer from Benin, the dancing harmonies of a Malagasy guitarist, the precise notes of a Belgian bassist with a wild groove, and the melodic improvisations of a saxophonist in love with the equator. “Here looks like us” in Yoruba, IBIYEWA is a laboratory emerging from Brussels meetings, at the crossroads of traditional music and creative innovations.
