Imagine the fusion of rhythms from a master drummer from Benin, the dancing harmonies of a Malagasy guitarist, and the melodic improvisations of a saxophonist in love with Ecuador.
The band IBIYEWA brings together three strong personalities from the Belgian capital: Beninese drummer Angelo Moustapha, a protégé of Philip Catherine; guitarist Joel Rabesolo, a leading artist of the young generation in Madagascar; and the unmissable Belgian saxophonist Toine Thys.
Their debut album, 'Vendredi Magnifique', celebrates festivity, freedom, and the night. A collection of pieces written by the three artists, blending acoustic and fully electronic worlds, all bound together by an uncompromising groove. No bassist, yet a bass that is ever-present, shifting from one instrument to another.
Wherever they play—from Brussels to Ouagadougou, from Conakry to Antananarivo, from Luanda to Paris—joy and smiles take over their audience.
The name IBIYEWA, meaning "Here resembles us" in Yoruba, reflects their desire to transcend cultural barriers and create music that unites. Their sound is an eclectic mix of African rhythms, grooves, electro, captivating melodies, and bold improvisations.
The result is music that resonates with the audience, sweeping them away in a whirlwind of sounds and rhythms.
