FAZZ (anciennement Museact)
- Address : Boulevard Leopold II 153, Molenbeek-Saint-Jean, Belgique
- Manager : Zoé Dufour - FAZZ
FAZZ (formerly MUSEACT) was founded in 2007. From 2011 onwards, the members of MUSEACT collectively took on the management of the Belgian Jazz Meeting with Dutch-speaking partners, an event that takes place every two years to showcase jazz in Belgium to an audience of Belgian and international professionals.
The association now aims to pool the concerns, advocacy, and support of associations active in the field of jazz and improvised music.
The operators within the association have recognized, particularly after the Covid-19 crisis, the need to work in a more coordinated manner in order to benefit from a multiplier effect of their actions and to revitalize this federation, which aims to be a place for information exchange and cooperation for its members.
These associations, all of which are non-profit organizations, are active in various fields: organizing concerts and festivals, training and promotion, record production, etc., all of which are wholly or partly related to the dissemination, creation, or promotion of jazz in French-speaking Belgium.
In 2020, MUSEACT was recognized as a professional federation by the Wallonia-Brussels Federation and, as such, sits on the Chamber of Music Consultation, which allows it to participate in the new cultural policy being put in place and to defend the views of its members.
Museact, renamed FAZZ in 2023, is a platform open to any other association as long as it adheres to the general principles that have been defined and specified in a “Charter.” Today, its partners are:
Collectif Jazz04, Gaume Jazz Festival, Jazz Station, Les Lundis d'Hortense, Maison du Jazz à Liège, Sowarex- Igloo Records, Sounds Live, Théâtre Marni, Relais Jazz, Hypnote Records, Home Records, Collectif du Lion, Jazz Mania, Aubergine management, Step By Records, Wooha, Mogno, Open Music, Le Rideau Rouge, Le Baixu.
The charter brings together organizations:
• whose objective is to defend the creation, promotion, dissemination, and training of artists in our community;
• whose focus is on jazz and improvised music and promotes the musical heritage of these sectors.
• whose legitimacy is recognized through their past and present actions;
• which operate on a non-profit basis so as to ensure that any profits are reinvested in accordance with their objectives and necessarily for the benefit of a diverse representation of artists.
The charter aims to:
• promote jazz and improvised music, in the broadest sense of the term and in all areas;
• to represent all of its members more effectively in dealings with public authorities, the media, and international partners; and to participate in any negotiations relating to matters that concern them;
• to support the necessary upgrading of subsidies and, at a minimum, their stabilization by public authorities;
• to share the common skills of the associations and thus improve the effectiveness of their action in the various fields of activity;
• to improve the coherence of activities by promoting cooperation between its members and with other federations in the music sector;
• to contribute to the development of artists by reflecting in a concerted manner on societal issues such as, among others, the social and administrative tax status of artists, copyright and performers' rights, the status of artists, fair remuneration, ecology, gender equality, and well-being at work.
