Mike Zinzen

He was the leader of a band named "the Skylarks" in the dixieland style, but after his discovery of Charlie Parker, he went to play be-bop, and always focused on playing the music he loved.
He also opened a club, "Gard Sivik" in Antwerp.
After a short stay in Barcelona, he opened more clubs : De Mok, the Hornclub and the Sibemol, where he regularly played himself.
He moved towards free jazz, presenting a trio which played pieces by Ornette Coleman, but also his own compositions and free improvisations.
At the end of the seventies, he formed with tubist/vocalist Patricia Beysens the band "Jazz Combine" (3 recordings were made around 1981).
He also was featured as a soloist with the BRT Jazzorkest.
He then was in charge of the programming of another jazz club in Antwerp, De Muze, when he presented a quartet with Dutch musicians : Wout Hendriks (p), Mary Hehuat (b) and Martin Van Duynhoven (drs).
With this quartet, he released the album "My Romance" (Mercy Records MR 0285).
He recorded in 1994 another album titled "Flashes and crashes, with Wout Hendriks (p), Henk de Laat (b) and Kris Duerinckx.
He also played in duo with tuba player Patricia Beysens, worked with poet Marc Pairon, released 'Duowerk' with pianist David Crane and in 2009, ' Mike Zinzen solo'.
