Serge Dacosse

  • Instruments : Electric bass
  • Date of birth : 30/01/1968 - Bruxelles
Bassist, composer, arranger, psychologist, indeed, but first of all he is a musician on a rich circuit of musical adventures. Jazz, latin music and flamenco are the various ways Serge likes to explore, all three of them with equal eagerness. Crossroads that are a source of inspiration for the musician.
In 1988 he meets Paolo Radoni, who opens the doors for him to the blue note. At that time he accompanies the quintet of saxophonist Willy Vandewalle, now deceased. Step by step he evolves onto the Belgian jazz scene and gathers experience at the sides of Yvan Paduart, André Charlier, Laurent Blondiau, Fabrice Alleman, Diedriek Wissels, Jacques Pelzer, Steve Houben, Stephane Martini, Charly D'Inverno, Sandyp Bhatta Charia, … to name but the most renowned.

Originating from Brussels, Serge moves to Liège, finishing there his studies in psychology at the university. There also he gets together with Stéphane Martini with whom he discovers Brazilian and Cuban music. Several collaborations arise out of their acquaintance : Tropicana Salsa, Latin Fun, Almoria Trio, among others.
The experience gained with the Almoria Trio, enables him to take his first steps into musical composition. In 1997 he performs with this formation along with Al di Meola at the Jazz Festival of Tourcoing. A natural attraction towards Spain, leads Serge to discover the flamenco. He crosses the peninsula several times and absorbes this culture in vivo. By his sonority and his very distinctive style, Serge earns recognition from many flamenco artists.
He performs alongside guitarists José Toral and Marquito Velez, dancers Soledad Capa, Sofía Yero, Julián Martín and Javier Romero, singers José Ligero, Miguel Flores, El Roto, Antonito Paz.
Serge also leaves his mark on the Sumari Flamenco Jazz Project.

Today he is also part of the José Toral Trio, and he plays as well in the group of the guitarist Antonio Segura.

The musical circuit of Serge, summarized here in a few lines, will perhaps allow to get a better perception of the creation in 2005 of his new formation DACOSSE, a space where the encounter between jazz and flamenco knows no frontiers.
