FIRE IN THE PET STORE

FIRE IN THE PET STORE

Mark Feldman, Philippe Thuriot, Bram De Looze & Kristof Roseeuw

Thuriot – Roseeuw, ‘compagnons de route’ for 25 years.

They played in duo, shared the stage during the Olympics in Athens, created music with grand masters such as René Lussier, Ellery Eskelin and toured throughout Senegal. When Belgian radio station Klara asked them to add music to their live programme ‘de Kunstkaravaan’ – presented by Thomas Vanderveken – they succesfully took over the radio for two seasons with their transgressive chamber jazz punk quartet ‘radioKUKAorkest’. When Festival of Flanders proposed to revive Dave Douglas’ enchanting 90’s album ‘Charms of the Nightsky’, they had the opportunity to share the stage with legendary violinist/composer Mark Feldman (Zorn, Uri Caine…).

The musical connection they had was reason for more. Flirting with boundaries, a credo that Thuriot-Roseeuw already held in high value with the radioKUKAorkest, and groovin’ without drums to let all the richness of every sound flourish, was the starting point. Those four touching points all connected when Bram De Looze happily agreed to join what is now knows as ‘Fire in the Pet Store!’

“Let’s make the violin do some wild thing and have the accordion sing, while the bass bows a crazy dzzzing and the piano drum some blingbling! Be warned, there’s a FIRE IN THE PET STORE!”
