"The Seventh Son," the new project from pianist Matthieu Van, revisits the world and unique style of Mose Allison (1927-2016), a Mississippi Delta bluesman who, despite his white heritage, naturally made this music his own, blending it with mainstream jazz and bebop.
"The Seventh Son" celebrates the universality of the blues, offering us resolutely groovy music, a rootsy jazz with phlegmatic undertones where the irony of Allison's lyrics finds a contemporary echo.
As for the question, "Can you be white and play the blues?",
Matthieu Van's answer challenges us: "I dare you!"
