Charles Lloyd Sky Quartet

Charles Lloyd celebrated his 86th birthday on 15 March 2024 with the release of one of the most significant albums of his seven-decade-long career, The Sky Will Still Be There Tomorrow. That same year, it won the prestigious Edison Prize and numerous other awards. Lloyd will be appearing at DE SINGEL for the first time, alongside Jason Moran, Larry Grenadier, and Kweku Sumbry in the highly acclaimed Sky Quartet. In describing this collaboration, Lloyd says: ‘All my life, I have had the incredibly good fortune to work with musicians who are on the same wavelength and can dream alongside me. The language that Jason Moran and I speak is not found in the Webster dictionary or the King James Bible. It springs from a deep-rooted love of sound and the mystery inherent in the quest for that sound. Larry Grenadier, with whom I have been performing and recording since The Water Is Wide (1999), connects that entire tradition to a more danceable, modern approach. His notes anchor us, while simultaneously offering us the opportunity to transcend ourselves.’
