Paal Nilssen-Love 'Circus' // Hanna Schörken

Paal Nilssen-Love 'Circus' // Hanna Schörken

That same week, Walter opens its doors to the public for a second time.
A second drummer and bandleader in the autumn programme. While we described Nicolas Chkifi earlier as meditative and hushed, Paal Nilssen-Love is mainly known for his hard-hitting blows on snare drum skins. But also – and even more importantly – for making space, listening, and reacting in the moment.
A circus that goes far beyond the circus, then. The music of Ethiopia, Brazil, Mali, and Senegal resonates in a sextet of extraordinary improvisers. South African vocalist Juliana Venter forms the dramatic centre. What begins as carefully composed material is broken open on stage. Any band member can, at any moment, launch any fragment. The result is explosive and unpredictable, no concert is ever the same. A circus of imagination.

Hanna Schörken opens the evening. A lively vocal dialogue between her voice and your ears.
