A virtuoso pianist born in Japan in 1988, Koki Nakano blends classical influences with contemporary sounds, drawing inspiration from bodily movement and his many collaborations with internationally renowned choreographers.
His new album Ululo continues this subtle exploration of balance, rich in nuance and ambiguity—echoing his Japanese cultural heritage, which values the art of the middle way. In Ululo, Nakano approaches this notion of equilibrium through the lens of desire and absence, shifting between restraint and yearning. It is through this search for harmony that the composer offers an intimate, poetic cry to the moon — at once too close and impossibly far away.
