Little Louis

Little Louis

Louis Armstrong was born in Storyville, a deprived neighborhood in New Orleans, United States. He was raised by his mother and grandmother, his father having deserted the home.

With an unfailing joviality despite the financial precariousness of his family, he encouraged street children to join in his songs to collect a few pennies. A news item would determine his vocation. It was customary that between Christmas and New Year, everyone would walk around with a gun to create a racket. Young Louis fired a few shots in the air, the detonation had a major impact on both his destiny and the history of jazz. He was indeed arrested and incarcerated in a delinquents' home. Refusing to give in to despair, true to his deep nature, he took up the cornet. The trumpet would follow, and with it a gradually international reputation and a prestigious career.
