Jozef Dumoulin and Éric Thielemans present DAIMON

DAIMON marks the first recording collaboration as a duo between two leading figures on the Belgian jazz, improvisation and experimental music scene. Pianist and electronic architect Jozef Dumoulin and drummer-percussionist Éric Thielemans have shared over twenty-five years of musical collaboration, but had never before recorded together.

What began as a mere two-day session in an Antwerp studio has evolved into a musical work of rare intensity. With no pre-established plan, the two musicians explored what still drives them today: listening, experimenting and pushing the boundaries of their musical practice. Their discussions about music, artistic freedom and the place of improvisation in an increasingly commercial landscape were an integral part of the process, just as much as their ensemble playing.

The result? A fascinating soundscape, where repetition, gradual transformation and subtle rhythmic shifts take centre stage. The compositions unfold slowly and invite an immersive listening experience, where time seems to stand still and sound is constantly shifting in form.

The title DAIMON evokes that twilight zone between light and darkness, that space where music defies any clear stylistic classification. The album celebrates ambiguity, nuance and the unknown, revealing two musicians who, with great care and mutual trust, create their own unique world.
