Meanwhile, Laurent took advantage of this enforced break to return to the essence of his work: honing his instrumental skills and writing music.
Before long, the new compositions formed an original soul-jazz repertoire, perfectly suited to the sax-guitar-bass-drums quartet.
The idea of bringing them together later on an album came about quite naturally.
As soon as it was possible to bring several musicians and their instruments together in the same room again, Laurent called on his chosen partners to bring to life and share this music born in isolation. Whilst it still carries a few melancholic undertones, it expresses above all the joy of reunion and the simple pleasure of playing together.
Meanwhile is Laurent Doumont’s new soul-jazz quartet.
