Double Bill - Trio Misturado & Dear Uncle Lennie (Jazz Tour- LLH)

Trio Misturado

With Line Daenen on flute and alto flute, Benoît Minon on 7-string guitar, and Renato Martins on percussion

Sometimes all it takes is a few well-balanced notes to set sail. Trio Misturado first takes the listener to the shores of the South Atlantic, to 19th-century Rio, where choro was born. A mixture (‘mistura’) of European and African dances, choro combines syncopated rhythms and improvisation, which puts it in direct contact with jazz.

Choro, meaning ‘cry’ in Portuguese, acts as its own antidote. This is the meeting point for Trio Misturado, which also draws on a number of Brazilian musical genres such as baião, frevo and samba, rhythms from both the south and the northeast of the country.

With its airy flutes, warm seven-string guitar and magical percussion instruments such as the cajón and udu, this purely acoustic trio has broadened its spectrum to include Latin music, sometimes with a chamber music feel. This means that these popular rhythms are treated with finesse and nuance, taking on poetic twists and turns. Bem-vindo to the enchanting world of Trio Misturado!

Dear Uncle Lennie

With Camille-Alban Spreng (pn), Benjamin Sauzereau (gt), Marco Giongrandi (banjo)

‘Dear Uncle Lennie’ was born out of pianist and composer Camille-Alban Spreng's desire to explore the evocative power of stories without words: those told by the fireside, whether real or imagined, inspired by cinema, folklore or fairy tales. Through short, intimate instrumental forms inspired by the art of haiku, the trio evokes a fantasy version of America: from gold rushes to the epic landscapes of Westerns, via grand family sagas.

After a first album, the trio extends and enriches this imaginary world with Sister Juniper (BMC Records, 2025): a free journey between folk, jazz, country and minimalism, recorded with producer Koen Gisen. True to its approach, the group favours suggestion over demonstration, exploring various traditions and genres without ever confining itself to them. Folk songwriting rubs shoulders with minimalist and repetitive music, while jazz and country blend together in a wide variety of instrumental expressions.
