MESTIZX is the debut album by Bolivian-born singer and multimedia artist Ibelisse Guardia Ferragutti and renowned jazz drummer Frank Rosaly, who lives in Chicago. They are the co-composers, arrangers and musicians on this album. Together with James McClure (trumpet/electronics/percussion), Lida Brouskari (synths) & Uldis Vitols (bass/synths), they dive into liminality with the audience.

Ibelisse Ferragutti and Rosaly, partners in both marriage and art, immersed themselves in the sounds of their respective ancestral roots in Bolivia, Brazil and Puerto Rico to create a highly personal meditation on decolonisation and the rebellious power of rituals and protest. They chose the title MESTIZX, a gender-neutral version of the sometimes derogatory Spanish colonial word for a “mixed person”, as a way to both challenge and embrace the liminality of their identities and artistic practices.
