Madalena Caldeira Vieira, a 21-year-old vocalist, was born on October 15, 2003, on Madeira Island. She began her musical journey at the age of 8, participating in local events and radio shows before formally starting vocal and theater lessons.
As her interest in jazz grew, she joined the Madeira Professional Arts Conservatory in 2018, enrolling in the Jazz Performance program. During this time, she became part of the Funchal Jazz Orchestra, performing with some of the most prominent names in the Portuguese jazz scene.
Throughout her academic path, she has taken part in masterclasses and private lessons with acclaimed international jazz artists, including Simon Moullier, Dianne Reeves, Kurt Elling, Jazzmeia Horn, Perico Sambeat, Joel Ross, Bill Charlap, Miguel Zenón, Fred Hersh, Ben Street, Gregory Hutchinson, among others.
In 2022, Madalena began her Bachelor’s degree in Jazz at the Lisbon College of Music (Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa), where she has studied under some of the leading names in Portuguese jazz.
In 2023, she performed with her quartet at the Funchal Jazz Festival and contributed original lyrics to a project called Electric Miles. In 2025, she debuted her own quintet at the renowned Teatro Municipal Baltazar Dias in Funchal. Also in 2025, Madalena was personally invited by Aaron Parks to perform in duo and quartet formats, exploring a repertoire that included both classic and lesser-known songs from the American songbook, as well as original compositions.
Today, her music seeks to revive the great songs of Broadway, the American songbook, blues, and vaudeville, while blending in her own compositions that portray strong, dynamic, and often comedic narratives. Her work reveals a unique connection between the richness of musical heritage and the contemporary world, establishing her as a compelling vocalist and storyteller.
