Saxophonist John Snauwaert and legendary Brazilian double bassist Nilson Matta will deliver a warm, grooving ode to the rich timbres of Brazil.
From sultry bossa nova to energetic samba, this concert breathes the spirit of Jobim and Hermeto Pascoual. Snauwaert's lyrical melodies and Matta's deeply swinging bass lines are a perfect match.
John Snauwaert is an adventurous Belgian saxophonist and composer who, with his lyrical tone and open musical spirit, effortlessly navigates between jazz, world music, and film scores. He has performed with international legends and draws inspiration from influences from Brazil, India, and Cuba, among others. Multiple Grammy Award winner Nilson Matta is a renowned Brazilian double bassist who has made a name for himself worldwide with his warm playing and collaborations with greats like Yo-Yo-ma, Joe Henderson, and Herbie Mann. As founder of the Trio da Paz and a master of both jazz and Brazilian music, he combines virtuosity with deep emotion and rhythmic finesse.
The quartet is complemented by Chris Joris on percussion and Emilie Mover on vocals. Emilie is the daughter of renowned jazz saxophonist Bob Mover.
