SULLIVAN FORTNER TRIO

SULLIVAN FORTNER TRIO

If jazz guru Fred Hersch calls you one of the world's best pianists, you'd blush for less. Sullivan Fortner won a Grammy for his contribution to the album The Window, which he recorded with jazz diva Cécile McLorin Salvant. He played with John Scofield, Peter Bernstein, and Ben Wendel. He previously topped the Downbeat Critics Polls in no fewer than three categories: Rising Star Jazz Artist, Rising Star Pianist, and Rising Star Arranger.

A firm belief in swing and the power of the blues is at the heart of Sullivan Fortner's piano playing. This flourished in a New Orleans gospel church. For years, he accompanied major American jazz stars like Roy Hargrove, Christian Scott, and Stefon Harris. During this time, he developed his versatile, unprecedentedly virtuoso style.

His latest album, Southern Nights, was released in February on the Artwork/PIAS label and was showered with critical acclaim. Sullivan Fortner is praised for his technique, creativity and inexhaustible melodic inventiveness.
