Walter has barely returned, and already Ken Vandermark is knocking on the door. Rings a bell?
Of course: The Vandermark 5, Made To Break, Marker, and winner of the MacArthur Prize – also known as “the genius grant.” And that genius is knee-deep in today’s Chicago jazz scene. Vandermark brings along three young voices from that exciting context: Erez Dessel, Lily Finnegan, and Beth McDonald. Walter is already blushing.
The genius is sticking around for three days in Cureghem and takes the Antwerp jazz scene on tour with him. A handful of students from the AP School of Arts don’t yet know what’s about to hit them at the start of October. But it’s bound to stick – just like that (re)opening night at Walter. The AP combo will play the very first notes in the concert hall after a long silence, warming up the stage for Ken Vandermark’s Edition Redux. Care to stick around with us?
