Olivier Chavet Quintett

Olivier Chavet’s quintet presents its second album, Elements. As with the first album, Racines, introspection and a close connection to the surrounding natural landscape played a key role in the creative process.

Elements, like its predecessor, conveys a sense of serenity in contrast to the turmoil of everyday life. It’s also a message that the musician from Raeren wishes to share with the listener through his music. What truly matters at the end of the day? It’s a question anyone can ask themselves — and one to which Chavet believes there are few real answers. “I don’t think all the things we worry about on a daily basis are actually important,” says Chavet. “What really matters is that, at the end of the day, the positive remains — and the connection with oneself and with one’s environment endures.”

He adds: “Mastery of one’s ego plays an essential role in that. It was the same when composing my new album. Without some distance from the noise of everyday life, the album wouldn’t be what it is.”

Nature — with its elements of air, fire, water, and earth — reflects the origin of the musician’s inspiration, born from a longing for a simple, unadorned life. Chavet’s place of residence, in the harsh yet beautiful Eifel region, plays a central role in this vision.
