Dieter Vaganée Quartet

Dieter Vaganée Quartet

The Dieter Vaganée Quartet is a group that likes to play a traditional repertoire browsing through their favorite songs being standards or covers of contemporary composers. But also likes to explore their own compositions by bandleader Dieter Vaganée. These compositions are inspired by African influences, this to serve his Master's thesis at the Brussels Conservatory, which he completed this year.

Dieter grew up in a family of musicians, his uncles and his father all playing wind instruments. This facinated him and from the age of ten he chose the alto saxophone as his instrument.

Very young he developed a great interest in jazz. This led him at sixteen to the Mechelen Conservatory, where he was taught by Tom Mahieu. He finished the musical humanities in Antwerp under the direction of Bart Defoort. He then spent two years at the Lemmens Institute, under the direction of Uncle Frank, and then went to the Antwerp Conservatory to attend lessons with Ben Sluijs.

The pleasure is in their exploration of compositions and playing together as a group with the goal of delighting themselves and the audience.
