Pianist and bandleader, Jean-Lou Vanderborght has led his own bands in styles ranging from dixieland to mainstream jazz and swing : Jean-Lou & his friends, Jean-Lou et son bastringue, Vocal Swing Anthology etc...
He also presented a jazz band related the universe of poet Robert Goffin, with René Desmaele (tp), Vincent Mardens (sax), singer Joanna, Robert Cordier (drums), etc...

He had the opportunity to play with several American and European soloists, such as : Bill Coleman (tp), Benny Waters (sax), Gene "Mighty Flea" Connors (trombone, vocals), Albert Nicholas (clar.), Buddy Tate (sax), Dany Doriz (vibraphone), and Belgian musicians such as Willy Donni (gt), Richard Rousselet tp), Alex Scorier (sax), Rudy Frankel (drs), Christian Kellens (tb), Johnny Dover (sax), Nick Kletchkovsky (b.), Paul Dubois (b.), José Bedeur (b), André Knaepen (tb), Albert Wastiaux (gt) , etc...

In 2013, he publishes (in French) a book of memoirs titled "Le Jazz et moi". He recorded some albums, a.o. :
