Anneleen Boehme

  • Instruments : Double bass
  • Date of birth : 30/11/1988 - Izegem
Anneleen Boehme is one of Belgium's rare female double bass talents. She picked up the double bass at the age of 12. She started playing both classical and jazz music, but decided to go for the jazz program at the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague (The Netherlands) in 2007. She was taught by Hein van de Geyn, Frans Van der Hoeven and Janos Bruneel. She finished her Masters' degree at the Conservatoire of Antwerp (Belgium) with Nicolas Thys.
She took masterclasses with Larry Grenadier, Mike Rossi, Pierre Vaiana, Stefan Lievestro, Hans van Oosterhout, Jasper van ‘t Hof, Brice Soniano and more.

She is the bass player of the well-known Belgian jazz trio LABtrio (with Lander Gyselinck on drums and Bram De Looze on piano), which was founded in 2007. The trio launched their first album Fluxus in 2012 with Outnote Records. They have performed on many festival stages such as Ghent Jazz Festival, the Theatre Festival in Avignon (France), Twelve Points Festival (Sweden), and they performed at the Jazz Middelheim Festival (Antwerp, BE) in August 2015. They have recorded their second album in New York in June 2015, together with saxophone player Michaël Attias and cellist Christopher Hoffman.

She created her own band, bass quartet ‘The Bass Party', with Janos Bruneel, Nathan Wouters and Soet Kempeneer. She also plays regularly with the Rob Banken Quartet (Rob Banken, Carlo Nardozza, Matthias De Waele and Anneleen Boehme), with the new band of guitar player Peter Verhelst (Peter Verhelst, Kimberly Dhondt, Yves Peeters, Anneleen Boehme) and with her voice/bass duo with singer Fien Desmet. With Fien Desmet she composes music for theatre. She also plays in bands Frie Maline, Saragon and GIZMO, and with ‘kleinkunst' singer Mira.

She's extremely versatile, and even that is an understatement. No wonder she's a frequently asked bass player in the jazz scene.
