Pascal Meurisse
- Instruments : Double bass, Electric bass
- Date of birth : 10/03/1966 - Brussel, Belgium
At a young age, Pascal's dad put headsets on his son's ears and that was the start of his musical journey!
Pascal started on classical flutes and later switched to the acoustic bass, studying classical and baroque music with Frank Coppieters (Il Gardellino, BRT-Filharmonisch Orkest, Collegium Instrumentale Brugense, ...) at the conservatory of Brugge. In parrallel, he started sharpening his rythmn section skills with his brother (drums) in the house garage and soon started gigging with a blues band. While his friends at school were listening to U2 or the Simple Minds, he secretly was listening to Tom Waits, Dave Holland, Michael Brecker, Weather Report or Bill Frisell thinking that he had tastes that were not quite the ones heard around him.
Later, he seeked the teachings of seasoned bass players Bart De Nolf, Philippe Aerts, Sam Gertsmans, Nicolas Thys, ... and was also taught by the likes of Nathalie Lorier (composition), Jozef Dumoulin, Fabriccio Cassol, Stéphane Galland, etc.
Pascal has been playing in numerous bands since the 80s, mostly Jazz.
Right now, he leads the swing band Taxi-Brousse (Ellington, Basie, Goodman, ...) and plays in a contemporary jazz trio called "Hypersonic Peace Bureau".
