A new book by Michel Mainil: 'José Bedeur – Nonante et des poussières'

This new book by Michel Mainil is devoted to a unique figure in Belgian jazz: José Bedeur.

Six years on from ‘Memories of You’, Michel Mainil reunites with the Belgian double bassist, cellist, composer and improviser in *Nonante et des poussières*, published by Éditions Orphéa.

More than just an expanded reissue, this new book gives José Bedeur himself a prominent voice. In it, he looks back on a life shaped by jazz and improvised music, but also on teaching, love, friendship, passing on knowledge, old age, death, politics and the upheavals of a world he has been observing for over nine decades.

Throughout the pages, numerous musicians who have accompanied him on his journey also feature, including Jacques Pelzer, René Thomas, Bobby Jaspar, Herman Sandy, Charles Loos, Bruno Castellucci, Richard Rousselet and Guillaume Vierset.

Through memories, anecdotes and reflections, "Nonante et des poussières" paints a portrait of a man who has always preferred to take the road less travelled rather than the beaten track. 

The book is also illustrated with photographs, most of which are by Robert Hansenne.
