Join Jazz Camp for Girls!
Would you like to explore free music and improvisation in a playful atmosphere? Are you excited to make new friends and create music together? Jazz Camp for Girls is a collaborative journey to discover our musical voice. Professional coaches (including Louise van den Heuvel, Anke Verslype, Hanne De Backer, Anthe Huybrechts, and Bart Maris) will guide you through the world of free playing, improvisation, jazz, creation, and listening. A core group of young female instrumentalists will help shape the stage from start to finish.
For whom
Girls aged 12 to 16 who play or want to explore an instrument (birth years 2009 to 2013).
Why the focus on girls?
Jazz Camp for Girls was created with the goal of balancing gender representation in the music industry. While there has been growing attention to gender inclusivity in recent years, festivals still predominantly feature male artists, as confirmed by SheSaidSo’s 2019 research. In the recent report *Be the Change: Women Making Music 2021*, female musicians expressed feeling discriminated against and underrepresented, facing (unconscious) biases. Jazz Camp for Girls is a positive action aimed at changing this. We aim to create an open and safe environment with female role models and encourage more girls to take the stage.
When
Monday, July 7th to Thursday, July 10th, 2025, from 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM, with a small performance on Thursday at 5:00 PM.
Where
Ha Concerts, Kouter 29, 9000 Ghent.
Registration
You can register online. Selection is only required if the group becomes too large (maximum 18 participants). The core group will then make a selection to ensure a balanced mix of instruments.
