Bruno Castellucci celebrates his 80th birthday

Bruno Castellucci is celebrating a brilliant career spanning over sixty years, as well as his 80th birthday.

To this end, he has surrounded himself with Belgium’s most international jazz guitarist Jeanfrançois Prins, master pianist Vincent Bruyninckx, and virtuosa bassist Bo Waterschoot. The quartet was originally hired to participate as the only musical group at the centenary celebrations of music pedagogue Dante Agostini in 2022 in Urbino, Italy, where the Castellucci family has its roots. Their performance there was a resounding success, and they have been performing regularly ever since. While on the road, the guitarist, pianist and bassist realized that we were all students of Bruno’s at some point, hence the band’s name: Legacy.

And the name makes even more sense since Bruno’s daughter Catherine joined them for one song (Fragile), and his son Ugo took the beautiful cover photo.

Castellucci LEGACY’s music travels easily through various styles and influences of the jazziztic heritage, putting their personal stamp on it, by means of original compositions and arrangements of great standards, underlining their interactivity, and the fluidity of their musical communication.

LEGACY, his new recording released on GAM Records is a great example of Bruno Castellucci’s mastery, unstoppable positive energy, and versatility.

To celebrate this anniversary, musician and writer Michel Mainil has written a biography of Bruno Castellucci entitled ‘Itinéraire d'un Sideman’.
