Bo van der werf's thesis available online

Bo van der werf has published his doctoral thesis from the University of Leuven on his website: 'Les petits pays colorés adding the colours of MESSIAEN to jazz composition and improvisation'.

This thesis is the fruit of 5 years' research into the work of the renowned French composer, organist and pianist Olivier Messiaen. It presents a set of functional melodic and harmonic systems, directly inspired by MESSIAEN's languages, for practical application in jazz improvisation and composition. 

Bo van der werf is also 'artiste -en-residence' for two years at Le Petit Faucheux, a SMAC (Scène de Musiques Actuelles) in Tours in France specialising in jazz and improvised music.
