The Schmitt Iannello Dupont Trio presents their new album, ‘La Boîte à Musique’

As I listen to this album once again, I delve into the depths of my memory.

It is often pleasant to recall specific memories related to certain significant events in our lives. The meeting between Samson, Johan and Joachim is one of those moments engraved in invisible letters deep within oneself. I can still see them, all three of them, sitting at a table at the back of a small courtyard surrounded by bamboo. Few words, a few jokes and music. Music, yes. Music is a powerful tool for getting to know each other.

It allows us to go where words often struggle to reach. It enhances feelings and emotions. A bond was formed that day. It has continued to grow, revealing a close connection between these three talented musicians. A few years, concerts and an album later, the trio reunited for a second opus. The magic still works, the bond remains unbroken. It is still alive and well, and has even grown stronger. Few words, a few jokes... And music, of course. Few or no rehearsals, it doesn't matter, the music speaks for itself and they have a lot to say to each other, you can hear it.

The sound takes its own path. We find ourselves immersed in the atmosphere of the grand Parisian hotels of the 1930s, where carefree abandon and opulence mingled. An ode to celebration and letting go. We gently slip into a trance-like state, between bursts of laughter, swing and dance. Nothing else matters, least of all time. And then comes that breath of fresh air, the poetry of a light breeze, which, with a single movement, fills our lungs, saturated with smoke and perfume, with air once more. Those moments of gentle calm, when we gaze at the stars... Time stands still this time, confronting us with our temporality, with our own reality, and making us think of funny or sad stories involving people we love or have loved. This moment freezes time for an indefinite period and makes us feel very small but also very big. This album is all about celebration, intoxication, euphoria, breathing space and nostalgia. All of this is linked by a thread of musical notes. Perhaps that is what life is all about, after all.
