corto.alto

corto.alto is what happens when a traditional jazz spirit grows up with the internet: raw, unconventional, and full of futuristic grooves. Trombonist and producer Liam Shortall made an impression with his debut Bad With Names: “a new high point for jazz in Scotland” (Skinny Mag). He immediately gained support from Gilles Peterson, Jamie Cullum, BBC 6 Music, and FIP. His mix of jazz, broken beat, dub, and subtle electronics is at once highly personal and irresistibly danceable. As a multi-instrumentalist, he builds a live universe where everything converges: beats, melody, improvisation, and energy – until you no longer know where the producer ends and the performer begins.
