aja monet's poetry was born from a deep need to make her voice heard on themes such as all people’s rights toward love, the pursuit of joy, freedom and dignity. She finds her strength mainly on stage, where she follows in the footsteps of revolutionary poets and artists such as Audre Lorde, the Last Poets, June Jordan, Amiri Baraka and Jayne Cortez. In the impressive Blue Hall, aja monet presents a special rendition of her debut album when the poems do what they do, for which she was nominated for a Grammy for Best Spoken Word Poetry Album in 2024.
Raised in Brooklyn, New York, aja monet already made a name at the iconic Nuyorican Poets Café, where she wrote history at the age of 19 as the youngest Grand Slam Poetry Champion. when the poems do what they do is the result of collaborations with leading jazz musicians such as Chief Xian aTunde Adjuah, Marcus Gilmore, Elena Pinderhughes, Luques Curtis, Samora Pinderhughes and Weedie Braimah. It promises to be an immersive experience in the Blue Hall!
